First Grade

April Crosses

                                                             May

May means expanding our writing skills in First Grade.

In Open Court Reading we are increasing our comprehension skills. We are now answering questions, drawing conclusions and responding to the literature in our Anthologies.  Our Tenth Unit  "Homes" will contain many interesting poems and stories, biography and art, all helping us to cement our skills as we explore literature related to homes for people and animals around the world.

In Math we are also practicing our skills as well as memorizing our last sets of Math facts and beginning subtraction. Our lessons will also include telling time, coin counting, even and odd numbers, fractions, patterning, geometry, measurement, calendar, and mathematical reasoning.

Our D'Nealian Handwriting is getting better and better. The smooth and curving strokes make our work look neat and careful as we prepare for cursive in second grade.

In Social Studies we are learning about trade in the new world.

In Science we are learning about the three states of matter.

We will enjoy going to Music, Art, Spanish,Computer and P.E. for more learning fun!

We are so excited to be in First grade!

Things to remember for May:
